After hosting a dinner party a few years ago, a guest commented, "I could never have pulled off something so formal and proper. I simply would not know where to start. Where did you learn to do all of this?" Now I must mention that this woman was a person of great upbringing who had accomplished a great deal in her life both personally and professionally. Yet, here she was genuinely intimidated by the thought of planning and hosting a dinner party.
That lady's comments made me recall a time when the mere thought of attending a business or formal gathering petrified me. The fact is, that I am horribly shy. Notice I did not use the past tense. Yet, I was constantly being thrust into different social and business settings. Comfort and confidence came only after I had spent literally hundreds of hours reading dozens of etiquette books. With each bit of newly acquired knowledge, the process soon began to reverse itself. I was not only getting less nervous about going to events, I was getting genuinely excited about going to them! It was my guest's comments those few years ago, however, that made me realize that there are thousands of people out there just like me. At that moment Etiquette Powersm was born.
One question arose, however. How do we match people's modern desire to get information via the Internet with the material we needed to teach? Then, inevitably, another question arose. Weren't there other complementary subjects that would be useful to some of the same people seeking this knowledge? It was at this moment that Power Keys, Inc. was born.
